Wise Words From Web Guru Chef Patrick – BACK UP YOUR WEBSITES!

chef-patrickI was perusing the vast land of domaining blogs when I came across this article posted by Patrick, creator of DomainSubway.com & DNKitchen.com (now ChefPatrick.com). You may read this article’s headline and say “well no duh, TMB!” In fact, that is actually what I said after I read Patricks headline. But then I read some of the horror stories that followed …

“Andrew, a friend of mine and one of my developers almost lost 75+ of his websites. I couldn’t believe it when the guy that does my backups doesn’t do his own. Luckily for him it was an operating system issue and was able to recover all of his data. Downside was it took 2-3 days to get everything back online.

DNUnderground.com, a domaining blog, lost everything over the weekend. In this case [the] hosting company was not able to recover anything.

YGrab.com, another domaining blog, lost everything in August. Since losing everything only 14 posts have been made, one of which to say backup your data.”

By the time I was done reading Chef Patrick’s article, I knew what I had to do. I got out my Kingston thumb drive, blew the dust off of it, and backed up all my data, websites, blogs, pictures, spreadsheets and various folders. Then I went and told my husband to do the same. Finally, I sat down and wrote this article for TMB.

So thank you, Chef Patrick. Your “well no duh!” article was a wake up call for me. Keep up the great work!
