All Your Base Still Are Belong To Us
TMB’s sister site, Blog Mango, posted about Facebook.com’s bombshell change in their Terms Of Service. Well, it seems that Blog Mango wasn’t the only blogger upset about the change. A Google blog search resulted in over 200 blog posts about these changes.
So, what’s all the fuss about? Facebook.com’s terms of service (TOS) used to say that when you closed an account on their network, any rights they claimed to the original content you uploaded would expire. Not anymore. Facebook.com is now saying that whatever you post on their site, be it images, movies, comments … anything really, is their property forever and ever. Even if you quit Facebook.com. Yikes.
Anyhoo, now Facebook.com’s Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook.com’s creator, has responded to the outrage. In his blog, he states:
One of the questions about our new terms of use is whether Facebook can use this information forever. When a person shares something like a message with a friend, two copies of that information are created—one in the person’s sent messages box and the other in their friend’s inbox. Even if the person deactivates their account, their friend still has a copy of that message. We think this is the right way for Facebook to work, and it is consistent with how other services like email work. One of the reasons we updated our terms was to make this more clear.
We here at the TMB still don’t like these changes, but you can read Mark Zuckerberg’s entire blog post here and formulate your own opinion.
What do you think about this subject? TMB want’s your opinion!

Since we posted this article, Facebook.com has backtrakced on the new TOS and reverted back to the old TOS. See this post (http://www.blogmango.com/2009/02/facebooks-new-tos-all-your-base-are-yours-again-for-now/) on our sister site, Blog Mango, for an update.
